Institute Cargo Clauses A, B, and C are the three standard marine cargo insurance coverage levels used in India. ICC A offers "all risks" cover — the widest protection, covering loss or damage from any external cause unless specifically excluded.
ICC B covers a defined list of named perils (fire, explosion, sinking, grounding, collision, earthquake, washing overboard, and water ingress), with a narrower scope than ICC A but still substantial. ICC C is the most basic and covers only major casualties (fire, explosion, sinking, capsizing, collision, and general average), excluding risks like theft, water damage, or in-transit handling loss.
All three clauses exclude war and strikes risks unless separately added via ICC War Clauses or Strikes Clauses. Exporters should select the clause based on cargo type, packaging vulnerability, transit route risk, and shipment value — high-value or fragile goods generally warrant ICC A, while bulk commodities on low-risk routes may be adequately covered under ICC B or C.
Institute Cargo Clauses A, B, and C are the three standard marine cargo insurance coverage levels used in India, each offering a different scope of protection for exporters and importers.
🔹 ICC A — All Risks
🔹 ICC B — Named Perils (Broader)
🔹 ICC C — Named Perils (Basic)
🔹 Common across all three
